PATHWAY OPTIONS
There are a number of choices, please ensure you select the correct pathway for your sample. Please give as much detail as possible
- Pathway 2A: Acute leukaemia (new) Full testing MARROW
- Pathway 2B: Acute leukaemia (new) Urgent testing BLOOD
- Pathway 2C: Acute leukaemia (new) Limited testing BLOOD
Pathway 2A: Acute leukaemia (new) Full testing MARROW
Use this for most cases of new suspected acute leukaemia. Trephine is strongly advised offers extended immunophenotyping in atypical cases. Samples for DNA and RNA is required then tests will be triggered according to the diagnosis made.
This pathway includes the following tests:
- Morphology marrow: URGENT
- Markers: option acute leukaemia marrow URGENT
- Histopathology BM trephine diagnosis
- FISH/cytogenetics new acute leukaemia marrow
- Molecular (separate samples are required to extract both DNA and RNA)
Pathway 2B: Acute leukaemia (new) Urgent testing BLOOD
Marrow samples are strongly preferred, but you may use this option emergency diagnosis is needed and full testing is not possible. Samples for DNA and RNA is required then tests will be triggered according to the diagnosis made.
This pathway includes the following tests:
- Morphology (blood) URGENT
- Flow cytometry acute leukaemia (blood) URGENT
- FISH/cytogenetics new acute leukaemia blood
- Molecular (separate samples should be sent to extract both DNA and RNA.)
Pathway 2C: Acute leukaemia (new) Limited testing BLOOD
For suspected acute leukaemia, offering limited testing of blood. This pathway is primarily provided for patients where treatment is likely to be palliative, although the stored DNA/RNA foes not preclude future testing if required. Limited FISH/ cytogenetics will be performed.
This pathway includes the following tests:
- Morphology blood: URGENT
- Markers: option acute leukaemia blood URGENT
- FISH/cytogenetics new acute leukaemia blood
- Molecular (samples should be sent to extract both DNA and RNA. Tests will be triggered within the service according to the diagnosis made)
