CML new diagnosis

PATHWAY OPTIONS
There are a number of choices. Please ensure you select the correct pathway for your sample. Please give as much clinical detail as possible on all samples.

Pathway 5A: CML new: BLOOD

Use this pathway for molecular testing to exclude a diagnosis of CML in cases with an elevated white count where diagnosis is not considered urgent.
The following tests will be performed:

  • Morphology blood
  • Molecular (RNA) for BCR::ABL1

Pathway 5B: CML new: BLOOD (rapid test)

Use this pathway for urgent investigation where treatment may be required immediately (Rapid FISH) this can allow treatment initiation pending a full marrow assessment.
The following tests will be performed:

  • Morphology blood: URGENT
  • Molecular (RNA) for BCR/ABL1
  • Cytogenetics/FISH CML [URGENT]

Pathway 5C: CML new: MARROW (full diagnosis)

Use for full evaluation of CML diagnosed or suspected following blood investigation.

  • Morphology marrow: URGENT
  • Flow cytometry (exclude acute leukaemia)
  • Bone marrow trephine
  • Cytogenetics/FISH CML [URGENT]
  • Molecular (RNA BCR/ABL1)
  • OPTION Molecular (DNA) hold and analyse on specific physician request
