PATHWAY OPTIONS
There are a number of choices. Please ensure you select the correct pathway for your sample. Please give as much clinical detail as possible for all samples.
- Pathway 15A: Cytopenias (ACUTE) cause unclear
- Pathway 15B: Cytopenias (CHRONIC) cause unclear (marrow)
- Pathway 15C: Cytopenias (ACUTE) suspect HLH (marrow)
Pathway 15A: Cytopenias (ACUTE) cause unclear
Use this pathway when a patient has acute cytopenias where the cause is unclear. Genetic material will be held and activated by the laboratory as indicated.
The following tests will be performed:
- Morphology with iron stain
- Flow cytometry (initially myeloiid, proceed to lymphoid if indicated)
- Trephine
- Cytogenetics (hold and proceed if required)
- Molecular (RNA hold) proceed if required
- Molecular (DNA hold) proceed if required
Pathway 15B: Cytopenias (CHRONIC) cause unclear (marrow)
Use this pathway when a patient has chronic cytopenias where the cause is unclear. Genetic material will be held and activated by the laboratory as indicated.
The following tests will be performed:
- Morphology with iron stain
- Flow cytometry (initially myeloiid, proceed to lymphoid if indicated)
- Trephine
- Cytogenetics (hold and proceed if required)
- Molecular (RNA hold) proceed if required
- Molecular (DNA hold) proceed if required
Pathway 15C: Cytopenias (ACUTE) suspect HLH (marrow)
Use this pathway when a patient has acute cytopenias where the cause is unclear but there is reasonable clinical suspicion of HLH. Genetic material will be held and activated by the laboratory as indicated.
The following tests will be performed:
- Morphology with iron stain
- Flow cytometry (initially myeloiid, proceed to lymphoid if indicated)
- Trephine (with histiocytic markers)
- Cytogenetics (hold and proceed if required)
- Molecular (RNA hold) proceed if required
- Molecular (DNA hold) proceed if required
